Initial Analysis – the start of a cost reduction team

The mission is often clear: ”Reduce the price/cost of this system”.

The ”onTrack Initial Analysis - IA” is the method that takes the cost reduction team on the journey from abstract mission via a clear understanding of the situation to a plan for what strategy, concrete tools and actions to take.

The course contains both theory but also a focused practical part. It is always applied on real customer cases in order to give the pupils not only a knowledge about how to do it but also a confidence in actually doing it, based upon the strength from “I have done it before and it was a success”.

 

Content

Understanding product cost; cost content (incl profit) and cost drivers
How to understand, analyse and cost estimate a product?
Different cost reduction tools for different types of cost
The IA process and what’s important in each phase
Case training:

-        Selecting a product/system

-        Involve supplier/production

-        Understanding history, current situation and future plans

-        Cross functional IA workshop at supplier/production site

-        Evaluating ideas

-        Setting strategy

-        Prepare for implementation

 

Objective

To provide the organisation with a generic METHOD that can be successfully used in all cost/price reduction work. Some key persons shall also be able to facilitate such workshops.

 

Target group

Primarily cost reduction responsible, team leaders, purchasers and designers. Secondary all involved in affecting cost, one way or another.
